BAT Services LLC — Best Asbestos Testing — is a Knoxville-based inspection company built on one idea: every project should be safe for everyone involved in it. We test residential and commercial properties for asbestos and lead, perform post-abatement air clearances, and tell you exactly what we found and what it means.
What we don’t do is remove it. That’s deliberate. A company that both tests for asbestos and sells the removal has an obvious incentive problem. We’re an inspection company, full stop — the report is the product, and it reads the same whether the answer is yes or no.

When one company both tests for asbestos and sells the removal, the incentives don’t line up. BAT Services is an accredited inspection company only. If your samples come back clean, we tell you they came back clean — and you go finish your project.
If they don’t, we’ll point you toward the licensed abatement contractors, environmental firms, and restoration companies we work with regularly, and help you understand what the scope should actually look like. Either way, you get an honest report you can hand to an adjuster, a contractor, or a buyer.

What is asbestos, and why does it matter in an older building?
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that was used heavily in building materials for insulation, fireproofing, and sound absorption before the 1980s. Undisturbed, it’s generally stable. The risk comes when it’s broken up and becomes airborne — which is exactly what happens during demolition, renovation, flooding, or storm damage.
My insurance company is requiring an inspection. Can I just use a home test kit?
No. Some DIY kits do send samples to accredited labs, but insurance carriers generally will not accept DIY results as evidence for a claim. Insurers — like state and local authorities — require an inspection by a certified professional to guarantee the accuracy and legal validity of the results.
How long does an inspection take, and when do I get results?
A typical insurance inspection takes 30–60 minutes on site, with certified lab results provided within about three business days. More detailed surveys for remodels or peace of mind can take several hours depending on scope and the level of detail you want — lab turnaround is the same.
My home was built after 1980. Am I in the clear?
Not necessarily. Most asbestos-containing products were banned in the U.S. in 1980, but a significant number of imported building products still contain asbestos, and we regularly find ACM in newer homes.
What happens if you find asbestos? Do you remove it?
We don’t. BAT Services is an accredited and licensed inspection company, not an abatement company. If your property tests positive for asbestos-containing material, a licensed abatement contractor will need to remove it before repair or renovation — and we’ll connect you with contractors and environmental firms we work with regularly.
Will the inspection damage my home?
Some, unavoidably. Suspect material has to be separated and sent to a lab, which means small sections of drywall, flooring, or ceiling get removed. Most inspections happen on properties that already have damage awaiting repair. On undamaged homes we sample behind baseboards and trim or from concealed corners of rooms, and we walk you through every sample location before we take it. We clean up dust and debris, but we don’t repair sample sites.
